Born and raised in Washington D.C., Mike attended college at Harvard University School of Extension, Cambridge Ma 1981-1986. Mike worked 18 years in Law Enforcement with the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland. While working for the Montgomery County Police, he held a variety of assignments including serving as a member on
several federal task forces. He retired as a Detective Corporal-Supervisor in the department's Major Crimes Division in 2004 after receiving the “Blue Heart” medal for line of duty injury.
Mike then began a second career as an investigator for Homeland Security in Washington D.C., transferring to the San Diego office in 2006. In early 2007 Mike transitioned to the Director of Safety at the Rock Church. At the Rock, San Diego’s largest church and the 19th fastest growing church in the nation, Mike built on the existing 15-member volunteer security program and partially designed and fully implemented the physical security aspects of the Rock’s 218,000 square ft. Point Loma campus which houses the K-12 Rock Academy and 3,500 seat worship facility. He also has oversight of Traffic safety & Community Relations, and is extremely thankful for his small but mighty team of 5 full time staffers. He has been a Co-Sector Chief of FBI InfraGard, San Diego Chapter, Faith Based Sector for the past 6 years. In June 2010, Mike founded and launched the very first National Church Safety & Security Conference that continues to operate in June each year.
The Rock Church has an average weekly attendance of 15,000 across five campus locations. There are 2 retail locations, over 14 microsite locations, an on-line campus, a continuing education school and a live broadcast of all Sunday services with nearly 30,000 viewers around the world. With the number of attendees and locations, the Rock regularly handles its share of security concerns and challenges. There are currently nearly 400 Safety and Traffic Safety volunteer Team Members that currently serve at the five campuses for all four Sunday services and special events.
