Wendy L. Patrick is a San Diego County Deputy District Attorney, named the 2014 Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year by the California State Bar’s Public Law Section. Recognized by her peers as one of the 2015 Top Ten criminal attorneys in San Diego by the San Diego Daily Transcript, she has completed over 150 trials ranging from hate crimes, to domestic violence, to first-degree murder.
In her current assignment in the Special Operations Division she handles cases involving sensitive issues including threat assessment. She is President of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) San Diego Chapter, and an ATAP Certified Threat Manager. In her previous assignment in the Sex Crimes and Human Trafficking Division, Dr. Patrick prosecuted sexually violent predators, human traffickers, stalkers, rapists, and child molesters. She has served as Co-Chair of the statewide California District Attorneys Association Sexual Violent Predators Committee and Human Trafficking Committee.
Dr. Patrick is an ordained Christian minister, and active in ministry. She received a Master of Divinity degree summa cum laude from Bethel Seminary San Diego where she was awarded the Excellence in Preaching Award and the Zondervan Biblical Languages Award. She has a Certificate of Biblical Counseling from Horizon University. She is ordained through Converge Worldwide/ Baptist General Conference, and spent years leading Bible study through her church.
Dr. Patrick received a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and subsequently published a book on the topic of her dissertation entitled Using the Psychology of Attraction in Christian Outreach: Lessons from the Dark Side (Peter Lang 2013).
Dr. Patrick is a frequent speaker at Christian conferences, institutions, and a wide variety of other faith-based events. Recent presentation venues include Hong Kong, South Korea, and South Africa. In addition, Dr. Patrick guest preaches at a variety of churches and is active in church leadership.
Dr. Patrick is president of the Christian Legal Society Metro New York chapter, a member of the Bethel Seminary Executive Board and Alumni Council, as well as a longstanding member of the San Diego District Attorney Inter-Faith Advisory Board.
Dr. Patrick is a frequent media analyst with over 1,000 media appearances. A frequent guest on CNN, Fox News Channel, and Fox Business Network, she has appeared on a variety of shows from Anderson Cooper, to the O´Reilly Factor, to the Kelly File, to HLN´s Nancy Grace, and a variety of other national and international programs. She has her own segment “Spotted” on Australia´s Seven Network, guest anchors for other media outlets, and is a prolific radio contributor, having also served as a radio host.
Publications and Editorial Boards
Dr. Patrick is published on a regular basis. In addition to Lessons from the Dark Side, she is co-author of the revised version of the New York Times bestseller Reading People (Random House 2008), and author of Red Flags: How to Spot Frenemies, Underminers, and Other Toxic People in Every Area of Your Life (St. Martin´s Press, 2015).
Dr. Patrick was a contributing author to the Encyclopedia of Race and Racism (Macmillan Reference 2007), and Hate Crimes: Causes, Controls, and Controversies (SAGE 2004). She is published frequently in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, has authored several articles for The Practical Litigator (ALI ABA national publication), and wrote a monthly ethics MCLE article for the California Bar Journal for years. Dr. Patrick is also a writer and editorial Board member for the national American Inns of Court publication The Bencher.
Dr. Patrick has an online column in Psychology Today, is a Huffington Post contributor, has a regular column in Law Enforcement Quarterly, and had an ethics column in the San Diego Daily Transcript for over a decade. She has been quoted in a variety of sources such as CSNBC, USA Today, US News and World Report, Washington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek, and The Christian Science Monitor.
On a personal note, Dr. Patrick holds a purple belt in Shorin-Ryu karate, is a concert violinist with the La Jolla Symphony, and plays the electric violin professionally with a rock band, performing locally and in Hollywood.
